Our Beliefs

Articles of Faith of the First Baptist Church of Marble Hill, MO

  1. We believe the Holy Bible as the inspired Word of God, without any error, the all-sufficient authority in matters of faith, doctrine, and Christian living. (Psalm 119:9, 11, 105, 160; Isaiah 55:11; and II Timothy 3:16-17)

  1. We believe in one God, eternally existing in three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  (Genesis 1:1, 26-27; 3:22; Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; John 14:6-12; II Corinthians 13:14; I Peter 1:2; and I John 5:7)

  1. We believe in the Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ, and that He is truly God and man. He died on the cross for our sins. He rose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven where He sits at the right hand of the Father and is now our High Priest and Advocate. (Genesis 3:15; Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 9:6; Isaiah 53:1-12; Matthew 1: 20-23; Luke 2:4-14, 21; John 1:1-5; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; I Corinthians 15:3-4; and Hebrews 4:14-15, 9:28, 10:10,12,14,19)

  1. We believe that man was created in the image of God but fell into sin and therefore lost. Only through regeneration by the work of the Holy Spirit can man's salvation and spiritual life be obtained. (Genesis 1:26-27, 3:1-19; Romans 3:23; and I Corinthians 15:21-33)

  1. We believe that eternal salvation is the free gift of God received through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, entirely apart from man's works, and is possessed by any and all who have repented and put their faith in Jesus Christ. (John 3:16; Acts 16:31, 17:30; Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-9; and II Peter 3:9) (John3:1-21, Acts 2:47, and I Corinthians 1:2; 12:12-31)

  1. We believe in a regenerated church membership: that is, persons old enough to understand their need for Jesus Christ and, of their own free will, accepted Him as their personal Lord and Savior. (John3:1-21, Acts 2:47, and I Corinthians 1:2; 12:12-31)

  1. We believe that baptism is by immersion and the Lord's Supper is a memorial to His suffering and death on the cross. These are ordinances to be observed by the church in its present age. They are, however, not to be regarded as means for man's salvation. (Acts 8:38-39, Romans 6:4, Colossians 2:12, Mark 14:22-25, Luke 22:18-20, and I Corinthians 22:23-25)

  1. We believe in the personal, bodily, imminent, and glorious return of the Lord Jesus Christ and that His Second Coming inspires believers to live a righteousness and zealous life in service for Him while waiting for His return. (Matthew 16:27; I Timothy 6:14-15; II Timothy 4:1; and Titus 2:13)

  1. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, the everlasting blessedness of the saved in heaven, and the everlasting punishment and separation from God of the unsaved in hell. (II Corinthians 5:6-8; II Thessalonians 1:6-9; Revelation 19;5-9; and Revelation 20:11-15)

  1.  We believe in the autonomy of the local church. The church shall manage its own affairs and shall not be subject to any other religious body or organization.  (Matthew 18:15-17, Acts 6:1-7, I Corinthians 6:1-8, And Revelation 2-3)
